- The phone’s HD+ display is just over 6.7″
- Performance is handled by the Helio G85 processor
- The battery has a rather solid 5,000 mAh capacity
Xiaomi was very busy at the end of 2022. Recently, we have not only seen the new Redmi K60 series, but also a smartwatch. Finally, the whole series for 2023 was complemented by the entry-level Redmi 12C, which is a phone for undemanding users who won’t mind a device full of compromises. First and foremost, though, let’s just say that this is going to be a very large device, as evidenced by the 6.71-inch IPS display, albeit only with HD+ resolution.

Under the hood is a MediaTek Helio G85 with up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage, which can be expanded up to 512GB with a memory card. The environment is provided by Android 12 with the MIUI 13 superstructure, but in a specially optimized version, as stated by the manufacturer itself. It will be a lightweight version, so in practice, some advanced features from Xiaomi’s higher-end phones may be missing.

A module with two cameras on the back of the new Redmi 12C hides the main photo sensor providing us with a promising 50-megapixel resolution, however, Xiaomi has been silent about the second one. Although we might guess that it will be a camera for the depth of fieldwork. The list of cameras ends with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. A pleasant surprise is the phone’s 5,000 mAh battery which will give the phone plenty of juice for the day, but you will experience a shock when you want to charge the phone as Xiaomi has deployed microUSB in the phone for 2023. Saving money on the USB-C isn’t probably the best way to retain devoted customers.

The Redmi 12C is already available in the Chinese market, and it comes in four colour variants. For the basic 64+4 GB version, the manufacturer charges around £84 including tax. Global availability and prices have not been announced yet.
