Roots dating back to 1977, the invention of wireless heart rate sensors or long-term production of the best sports testers and smartwatches. All this is associated with the Finnish manufacturer Polar, whose models boast the most advanced sports functions available on the market. Among the multisport products, the new flagship Polar Vantage V2 excels, embodying the true concept of the best present technologies.
Polar Vantage V2: Lightweight construction with military resistance
The Polar Vantage V2 smartwatch comes in a lighter construction than its predecessor had, thanks mainly to the new premium materials. The original stainless steel was replaced by a special aluminium alloy, which has proven itself, for example, in aviation or aerospace. We can also count on extreme resistance meeting the military standards MIL-STD-810G, while the water resistance has increased from the original 5 to amazing 10 atmospheres, thanks to which snorkelling or diving at smaller depths is not a problem. The strap is made of a popular silicone, which is a clear choice for sports and water use due to its durability and inability to absorb moisture. In addition, the straps are replaceable, allowing a significant change in the overall design according to wearer’s style.
The proven display from the previous generation remained unchanged. Once again, we get a 1.2-inch panel with a resolution of 240 × 240 px and more than a sufficient fineness of 283 PPI (pixels per inch).
The ambient light sensor ensures perfect brightness in every situation, thanks to which the Polar Vantage V2 always lights just right. And because the display remains the most vulnerable part of every smartwatch, Polar Vantage V2 uses the help of the popular Gorilla Glass protective glass, which is additionally covered with a special layer against fingerprints. Of course, we can’t forget the always-on display (Always-On) function for continuous display of all key information. A welcome novelty is the ability to adjust the appearance of your colour dials. The touch display is allowing easy and intuitive interaction with the support of alternative control of five hardware buttons, which significantly improve the interaction with wet and dirty hands, or with the gloves on.
Polar Vantage V2: Sports features A to Z
In addition to tracking the number of steps, the distance travelled, the calories burned and the time spent moving, you will also get alerted if you are inactive for a longer time, so you can stretch in advance. Practically, every smartwatch measures physical activity, and the Polar Vantage V2 is, of course, no exception. Furthermore, you can monitor your sleep, where the Polar Vantage V2 recognizes the light, deep and REM phases, while the total night rest is also evaluated by the score. That’s why you will always know how much energy you can count on the next day.
There are over 130 sport modes ready right away, within which you can also choose what data you actually want to be displayed during the activity. Of course, heart rate monitoring, which takes place using the fusion technology of the Precision Prime sensor, plays a key role. In addition to traditional optical measurements, other sensors are used to eliminate the effect of regular movements, which significantly improves the final results.
However, wrist measurements are generally not perfectly accurate, so the manufacturer recommends the use of a chest strap, such as the Polar H10, for more demanding users. However, you can expect compatibility with practically all running and cycling sensors that use BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) technology.
Polar Vantage V2: Navigate anywhere
GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and QZSS positioning systems are also integrated, allowing speed, cadence, exact distance or overcame route to be recorded on a map. There is also a compass and barometer, which, among other things, uses the Hill Splitter function for detailed analysis of ascents and descents. Another great feature is certainly that you can easily upload a selected route from Komoot app directly to your Polar Vantage V2 smartwatch.
Polar Vantage V2: Exercise guide
Sometimes the user simply does not want to think (or is not sure) about what type of training is ideal at a given moment. Fortunately, the FitSpark guide will help you with this. It will prepare exercises for each day corresponding to your own condition, regeneration and history of activities, or takes into account a foot regeneration test (see below). You can choose from several types of exercises, such as cardio, strength or supportive training, which will also guide you through with clear instructions.
You will also appreciate the free, running programs that will prepare you for each race. All you have to do is choose the date and the target length of the track. The app will then create a complete training plan with automatic adaptation to your current progress. Not only will the smartwatch guide you through every exercise, where it suggests whether to increase or decrease the pace, but the preparation is complemented by activities aimed at strength, mobility or strengthening your deep (core) stabilization system.
Polar Vantage V2: Sky is the limit
The Polar Vantage V2 smartwatch got the most advanced sports functions, many of which you won’t be able to find on almost any competing models. One of the most discussed innovations are performance tests for running and cycling, which enable professional monitoring of training progress.
Most watches simplify their work by using universal scales to recommend heart rate and other parameters, while in practice the body’s needs respond to a number of factors, including training or illnesses. That’s why Polar Vantage V2 allows you to monitor your activities in detail, based on which it automatically adjusts heart rate, strength zones and other parameters for future exercise. You will always know how to practice properly to effectively achieve the desired results.
The current condition of your own body can also be checked using a fitness exercise test, which reveals aerobic fitness based on measurements of maximum oxygen intake (VO2max) in just five minutes.
However, when running, you will also use a monitor called running performance, which analyzes the effect of the environment in relation to your heart rate. It uses data from GPS and barometer and is therefore especially suitable for activities on uneven terrain, where it easily ensures an even intensity of training so that you do not suddenly run out of breath.
Polar Vantage V2: Food nutrition tracker
It is also worth mentioning a new feature so-called Sources of energy, which will tell you how much carbohydrates, proteins and fats the body has consumed in particular training, which can be useful during your weight loss process. Closely related to this is the FuelWise assistant which estimates the need for carbohydrates during a longer workout and immediately tells us when it is appropriate to eat something in order to recharge our batteries and keep the full strength.
Polar Vantage V2: Useful at every step
Polar Vantage V2 are ready even for moments when we are not giving our body the hard time. It includes a number of useful elements, such as an alarm clock, stopwatch, countdown or display of the current and predicted weather. We cannot forget on useful music control played on your mobile phone. You will also be notified of all incoming calls, received messages or notifications from your mobile phone apps, so you can be sure that you won’t miss anything important. After a tough day, many will also appreciate the available breathing exercises, which allow you to easily eliminate stress and, in the long run, even improve focus, sleep or overall well-being.
As already mentioned, the connection to other devices is provided by Bluetooth in the eco version of BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy). Thanks to this, the 346mAh battery is able to achieve a solid 7 days of normal use or 40 hours while using GPS. In addition, there are several options for saving energy, and for example, you can achieve a respectable 100 hours battery life while in training mode.
Polar Vantage V2 – variants, availability and price
Currently, you can choose from Black, Green or Grey-Lime colour variants.
The Polar Vantage V2 will cost you around £448 or £500 in edition with the H10 heart rate monitor chest strap. Although the price is one of the higher ones, it can certainly be expected saying the device is equipped with the most advanced sports functions.
