Samsung, the smartphone and consumer electronics giant will soon introduce a high-end representative and successor to last year’s Galaxy A71, the Galaxy A72 smartphone. And as it becomes rather customary in the past few years, we get a chance to look at the phone and its specs thanks to the German website WinFuture which has released press information about the upcoming Galaxy A series smartphone in advance of the official Samsung’s announcement.
Unlike its smaller sister model Galaxy A52, the Samsung Galaxy A72 initially only appears in a simple 4G version, although a 5G version will also be available for purchase. The decent mid-range smartphone adopts many of the design elements of the Galaxy S series, but costs significantly less.
The Samsung Galaxy A72 has a flat 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with round corners in Full HD+ resolution (2400 × 1080 pixels) running at 90Hz refresh rate. The screen features front 8MP selfie camera and optical fingerprint reader hidden underneath.
The backside of the upcoming Galaxy A72, which will be available in four colour variants (some sources state in total 6 colour variants), has a redesigned photo module with four cameras and an LED light.
The main 64MP sensor s supposed to provide increased sharpness and more detail by means of pixel binning (a technology to reduce noise in the photography). It will be complemented by a 12MP sensor for ultra-wide angle shots, 8MP telephoto lens (with 2x optical zoom) and a 2MP macro sensor. (The information about the camera slightly contradicts previously information heard from other sources and therefore cannot be considered as 100% verified).
The Galaxy A72’s performance will be provided by a Snapdragon 720G clocked at 2.3 GHz, in pair with two different variants of either 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage or 8GB of RAM with 256GB storage.
The Galaxy A72 will be powered by 5,000mAh battery with fast charging support via USB-C. Wireless charging hasn’t been confirmed here and shouldn’t be expected in this mid-range device. On the hand, the A72 body gets an increased IP67 certification ( resistance to splash water, a short dip in water).
The smartphone still retained its 3.5mm headphone jack as well as microSD card slot to expand the internal storage. As mentioned before, Samsung will sell the phone in both LTE (4G) and 5G versions, where the basic variant, is to start at €450 (£392, $546 after conversion).
The Samsung Galaxy A72 will run on the newest Android 11 with Samsung’s own interface and will be introduced along with the Galaxy A52 at the end of February.
